This artwork is a drawing of a Camp Ripley bunk made to Civil Air Patrol inspection standards. There is a bed, shoes placed underneath, a locker to the left, and uniforms hanged in the locker. The wall is brick. Detail decreases as you look away from the bunk.
I created this artwork by drawing from memory. I drew with pencil onto paper. The big idea behind this artwork is to show the rigidity and precision often expected in Civil Air Patrol and specifically Encampment. My goal for this artwork was to make an accurate and realistic drawing of an inspection ready bunk. It was also intended to represent the high standards that I hold for myself. Overall, I think I did a good job at creating this artwork. I think it was accurate and I had fun doing it. My next artwork will be themed "Identity", or things that define me. When thinking about this, one part of my life stands out, Civil Air Patrol. Instead of creating an artwork outlining all of Civil Air Patrol, I want to do an artwork themed around Encampment, a big and important Civil Air Patrol camp based at Camp Ripley. A very memorable part of Encampment is the bay inspection so I will make an artwork showing a complete bunk made to inspection standards.
My artwork is a landscape painting of a frozen snow-covered lake with pine trees on the shoreline. There are snow-covered mountains in the background. I created this artwork with acrylic paint. I started with the sky by painting blue on the top and white on the bottom, then blending it all together. Then, once the paint dried, I painted the mountains. I first did the outline in black. Then, I used a palette knife with white paint to paint the snow on the mountain. Finally after everything dried, I painted the snow covered hills and lake in the foreground using shades of white and blue, also adding blue to the lake. I made this artwork because I had a mental picture of a lake on a mountain with mountains in the background. I wanted to capture the size of the mountains in the background and show depth between the foreground and background. My goal for this artwork was to make a scene showing depth and contrast while making a realistic painting. I think I succeeded in this goal because it shows depth and it is somewhat realistic yet painty. Overall, I enjoyed making this artwork. I think I'll be using this medium in the future. In the process of creating this artwork, I exercised a few studio habits.
Develop Craft-I am getting to test out acrylic paint and developing new techniques when creating the artwork. Specifically, I had to develop a technique to make a snow-covered mountain. Envision-Typically when creating an artwork, I use a reference image. For this artwork, I have decided to create from my imagination and vision. Painting BootcampWhen practicing painting, I experimented with acrylic paint, testing out shading, blending, and mixing. I did this by performing certain tasks assigned by my teacher including creating a color wheel, testing different brushstrokes, painting 8 different shades from white to blue, painting 8 different shades from red to black, painting 8 different shades from yellow to red, painting with different brushstrokes, and putting that all together to make an abstract artwork. Landscape ArtworkFor my landscape artwork, I want to paint a Minnesota snow-covered lake. It will have a treeline in the background and a few trees in the foreground. There will be no tracks in the snow (unlike the photo to the left). It will have evergreen trees (like the photo to the left).
My artwork is titled "Rick the Chick". It is a drawing of a stuffed animal chick. It is drawn on black paper with chalk pastels. Before I made this artwork, I had to run some experiments and watch some videos since chalk pastel is new to me. I tested out the fluffy texture of the chick as well as the shading of the beak and feet. Then I threw it all together into what I thought was my rough draft until I realized the rough draft was exactly what I wanted to be my final artwork. My big idea was to show innocence contrasted by evil. I wanted an innocent little stuffed chick to contrast with a black seemingly empty void. I believed this goal was met but I think I could have done a little more to give the chick a little more placement; maybe a spotlight shadow or something similar. In creating this artwork, I learned how to make a fluffy texture with chalk pastel. I think the technique I used could be carried into other mediums.

AuthorI'm Hayden - a sophomore who accidentally signed up for an art class. I have been called a good artist by a few elementary teachers and was nominated for the "Pablo Picasso Award" at pep fest last year, so I think I am a certified "artist". I like skittles. Archives
