My artwork is a landscape painting of a frozen snow-covered lake with pine trees on the shoreline. There are snow-covered mountains in the background. I created this artwork with acrylic paint. I started with the sky by painting blue on the top and white on the bottom, then blending it all together. Then, once the paint dried, I painted the mountains. I first did the outline in black. Then, I used a palette knife with white paint to paint the snow on the mountain. Finally after everything dried, I painted the snow covered hills and lake in the foreground using shades of white and blue, also adding blue to the lake. I made this artwork because I had a mental picture of a lake on a mountain with mountains in the background. I wanted to capture the size of the mountains in the background and show depth between the foreground and background. My goal for this artwork was to make a scene showing depth and contrast while making a realistic painting. I think I succeeded in this goal because it shows depth and it is somewhat realistic yet painty. Overall, I enjoyed making this artwork. I think I'll be using this medium in the future.

In the process of creating this artwork, I exercised a few studio habits.
Develop Craft-I am getting to test out acrylic paint and developing new techniques when creating the artwork. Specifically, I had to develop a technique to make a snow-covered mountain. Envision-Typically when creating an artwork, I use a reference image. For this artwork, I have decided to create from my imagination and vision. |
AuthorI'm Hayden - a sophomore who accidentally signed up for an art class. I have been called a good artist by a few elementary teachers and was nominated for the "Pablo Picasso Award" at pep fest last year, so I think I am a certified "artist". I like skittles. Archives
